Wicken
Wicken is a small village on the edge of The Fenlands in Cambridgeshire.
Over looking the green and the adjacent village pond, The Maid's Head is a traditional English pub which offers good "old fashioned" hospitality and a generous and welcoming atmosphere providing a central heart to the thriving village life.
On the opposite side of the green, close to the village pond complete with weeping willow trees dangling their fronds in the water, there is a well equipped and maintained children's playground.
Facing onto the green, is Wicken Village Hall which is again, a value contributor to village life.
To the south of the green lies a fully restored windmill. The mill is a fully boarded smock mill and this is the only working 12 sided smock mill in the country. which still mills wholemeal and white flour powered solely by the wind. The windmill is open to visitors at select times which can be found on the "SPA" website.
Wicken lies on the edge of Wicken Fen which is now cared for by the National Trust which has a visitor centre and cafeteria and even offers a cruise along the fen waterways. The Fen is a wonderful environmental asset to both the local area and the nation as a whole.
